5.2.07 Jan Kopecký comes top in the Golden Wheel survey
In the thirtieth annual Golden Wheel (Zlatý Volant), Jan Kopecký won most votes from sports journalists and professionals in the 'Rallies and Marathons' category. This is the second time the driver, sponsored by Škoda Auto a.s., has won the traditional survey.
The results achieved by the Czech Rally Team Kopecký in events in the 2006 World Rally Championship were rewarded not only by an easy win far ahead of the runner-up in the category, but also by Filip Schovánek's victory in the 'Co-driver of the Year' category.
'At the official announcement of the 2006 Golden Wheel awards, I had the chance to look back at last season and recall important milestones over the year. The 2007 season is now in full swing and we are concentrating fully on preparing for the upcoming rallies.
Naturally, I'm very pleased I have won, but I consider this prize to be just reward not only for my sporting performance, but in particular for the top-class work done by the Czech Rally Team Kopecký. Of course, my father Josef Kopecký deserves most credit for the perfect functioning of the team and quality facilities for the crew,' said Jan Kopecký during the official prize-giving.
